Sandburg Women Power Past Prairie State to End Skid

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team stifled Prairie State for a 51-42 victory on Saturday afternoon at John M. Lewis Gymnasium, snapping an eight-game skid for the Chargers.

The Chargers (2-10) held the Pioneers to just 21 percent shooting on the day. Sandburg rallied from an early 11-6 deficit and had all nine players who suited up score.

KEY MOMENTS
• Sandburg outscored the Pioneers 13-3 in the second quarter to grab a 19-14 lead at halftime. The Chargers opened the period on a 10-0 run, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Abbey Donaldson (Bushnell, Ill./Bushnell-Prairie City).
• The Chargers added nine unanswered points to start the third quarter and closed that frame with 13 of the last 16 to lead 41-24. Sandburg’s biggest lead of the day came at 50-27.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Freshman forward Natalie Righi (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) scored a team-best and season-high 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting. She also grabbed seven rebounds and picked up a pair of steals.
